Knowledge Is Empowering
Resource Mavens is a living resource space — rooted in service, growing with the community.

Finding help should not require knowing the right agency name, understanding complicated systems, or sorting through pages of outdated information.
Resource Mavens was created to make that process a little easier.
We gather practical community resources, useful information, affordable opportunities, free offerings, events, and local connections so people in Sherman, Denison, and the Texoma area have a clearer place to begin.
Our goal is simple:
Help people find what may help them — understand what to expect — and know what they can do next.
Why Resource Mavens Exists
Resource Mavens is an independent community information initiative, currently carried out voluntarily. It is not a nonprofit and is not affiliated with other community resource providers.
It was created because a need was seen for clearer, practical, understandable local information.
Resource Mavens grew from years of working in service-oriented environments where information can make a tremendous difference.
Founder Catherine “KiKi” Culbert has worked in public service, disaster response, claims, administrative support, and community-focused roles. Those experiences repeatedly demonstrated something important:
A resource is only useful when people can find it, understand it, and feel confident enough to use it.
Resource Mavens was created to help bridge that gap.
This is not simply a collection of telephone numbers and website links. Whenever possible, we want to understand the resource itself — what it provides, whom it serves, what someone should know before going, and how current the information appears to be.
What Is a Maven?
A maven is someone who knows, shares, and connects useful information.
At Resource Mavens, being a Maven is not a title reserved for experts.
A neighbor who shares a helpful program can be a Maven. A provider who explains a service clearly can be a Maven. A community member who lets us know that information has changed can be a Maven.
Anyone who helps another person find a path forward can be a Maven.
You too can be a Maven.
How We Build Trust
Community information changes.
Hours change. Funding changes. Programs open and close. Eligibility requirements can change. Even well-established organizations may adjust how or when services are provided.
That is why Resource Mavens uses two public designations:
R · Researched
A published community resource that has been identified or provided to Resource Mavens and researched sufficiently to share. It has not yet completed our staff verification process. Referral sources remain confidential.
V · Verified
A published resource whose key information has been confirmed by Resource Mavens staff through our verification process. Verified listings show the month and year of verification.
Whenever possible, we also connect with providers directly.
Through our Community Connections, we may visit a place of service or conduct a short interview so community members can meet the people behind the resource, see the setting, and better understand what is available.
A visit or interview strengthens our understanding of a resource, but it does not automatically make every detail Verified. Our research and verification process remains separate.
A Living Resource Space
Resource Mavens is designed to grow.
Some sections may begin with only a handful of listings. Others will expand as resources are researched, providers are contacted, community members share information, and new opportunities become available.
That is intentional.
We would rather begin with useful information we can stand behind than create the appearance of completeness with information we have not adequately reviewed.
This is merely a beginning, not a destination.
Our Community
Resource Mavens begins with Sherman and Denison and the surrounding Texoma area.
Our focus is local because local knowledge matters.
Over time, the site may grow, but the principle will remain the same:
people helping people find practical ways to move forward.
Help Resource Mavens Grow
Know about a useful service? Found a worthwhile bargain? Know of something being offered freely to the community?
Is there a provider or neighbor whose work deserves a Community Connection? Or did you notice something on Resource Mavens that needs correcting?
Every useful piece of information is another little acorn of possibility — and sometimes that one acorn is exactly what another person needed to find.
Independent information: Resource Mavens is an independent community information initiative. Listings are shared for informational purposes; inclusion alone is not an endorsement, and Resource Mavens cannot guarantee services. Programs, eligibility, hours, prices, and availability may change. Please confirm current details directly with the provider before making plans.
