Operation Homefront — Critical Financial Assistance

Services: Short-term help with essential expenses for qualifying military families nationwide. Depending on eligibility, assistance may include rent or mortgage, utilities, food, vehicle payments, medical needs, baby items, home repairs and transportation. Assistance requires case review and approval.

Eligibility: Post-9/11 service with a documented wound, illness or injury in the line of duty; discharged applicants must have an Honorable or General (Under Honorable Conditions) discharge and be within 10 years of separation. A separate route covers E-1–E-6 members with DEERS-eligible/legal dependents and qualifying overseas or ship deployment, unaccompanied overseas orders, or specified Title 10 Guard/Reserve deployment circumstances. General active-duty E-1–E-6 members with eligible dependents qualify only for food and dependent vision assistance. Review the detailed eligibility and assistance categories.

Apply: Create an account or log in to My Operation Homefront. Prepare military ID, DD214 if discharged, line-of-duty records or deployment orders as applicable; the caseworker may request income and bill documentation. The supplied resource listing reports applications during the first 10 days of each month, closing at 11:59 p.m. CST on day 10; confirm the current intake window in the portal or by phone.

Limits: Free assistance program; approval and timing vary. Lifetime limits generally are three assists for active-duty/deployed categories and five for documented post-9/11 wounded, ill or injured applicants. American Red Cross · Hero Care and disaster assistance

Military assistance: Call 877-272-7337, available 24/7. Hero Care connects military members, veterans and families with resources and emergency communications. Financial assistance is provided by military aid societies; they determine eligibility, amount and type of aid. Red Cross facilitates the transfer. Possible needs include emergency travel, burial, food and shelter.

Financial eligibility: Active-duty members, activated Guard/Reserve, eligible immediate family, military retirees and their spouses or widow(er)s may qualify. Veterans generally do not qualify unless medically retired; Guard/Reserve members need active-duty orders exceeding 30 days. See the official eligibility rules.

Prepare for the call: Service member’s legal name, rank, branch, Social Security number or date of birth, unit address and details, and an existing case number if applicable. Give this information directly to Hero Care. Information needed · Request assistance.

App / overseas access: Free Hero Care app in English and Spanish; text GETHEROCARE to 90999 for the app link. Overseas Wi-Fi calling is available only from devices outside the continental U.S. Additional services.
